Celebrando Orgullo
"Celebrando Orgullo" ("Celebrating Pride") was a photo series/independent project I decided to host and produce for my college's Latinx club's (IC Poder) upcoming Latinx student banquet in Nov. 2019. This banquet is held every fall semester and I wanted to create a special project to showcase for it.
This was my original mission statement:
"I want to showcase the individuality and collective diversity of every one of PODER’s members through photographs that I (Grethel) will be taking! I have come to realize that PODER has made a special place in my heart, along with the students participating in it. I love my culture and where I come from, and I want to show outsiders the beauty and power of students of color. This shoot will also be open to other Latinx students at Ithaca (outside of PODER) who are interested in modeling for their country, as well."
I organized the shoot's location, the shooting dates, found models, and personally funded the whole thing. I also had two volunteer helpers to assist with any tech equipment help I might've needed help with and transportation.
At the banquet, Gadiel Del Orbe, a former Buzzfeed content creator for Pero Like, activist, and actor, spoke a few words with my photos going in the background.
